1.Professional Evaluators (PE)
The highest distinction bestowed upon any credential evaluation service is the title of “Professional Evaluator (PE)”. Accredited recipients of this title are granted the privilege of incorporating .edu into their domain names, a recognition typically reserved for degree granting institutions, and reputable higher education organizations, such as the American Council on Education. Additionally, they are assigned an EDUCAUSE ID number. Notable higher education organizations that hold this distinction include
- American Council on Education ACEnet.edu
- California University FCE https://californiauniversity.edu.pe
In order to hold the designation of a Professional Evaluator, individuals are required to hold either a PhD or Ed.D. degree and possess extensive experience in Curriculum Development and Educational Leadership within the realm of Higher Education. These evaluators are entrusted with the responsibility of assessing the current degree curricula across various academic disciplines, as well as scrutinizing the academic programs and faculty compositions of universities seeking regional and national accreditation.
Additionally, Professional Evaluators are tasked with conducting a thorough credential evaluation of graduating students from universities that have attained regional and national accreditation. They meticulously review the credential evaluations previously conducted by members of organizations like NACES and AICEI during the students’ admission to the university. If any students are identified as deficient in specific areas of study within the curriculum, they are not permitted to graduate. Instead, they are offered remedial classes to address these deficiencies before being granted permission to graduate.
2.Certified Credential Evaluation Services.
There are three reputable organizations that provide accredited foreign credential evaluation services:
- California University Foreign Credential Evaluation (CUFE) – https://californiauniversity.edu.pe
- National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES)
- Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICEI)
Certified credential evaluators possess either a bachelor’s or master’s degree in any field and possess in-depth knowledge of the curriculum requirements of regionally accredited universities in the United States. Their evaluation reports meticulously detail the various areas of study for each degree they assess.
In order to make precise comparisons between foreign degrees and U.S. regionally accredited degrees, evaluators thoroughly analyze foreign transcripts, breaking down the degree’s areas of study and providing a comprehensive explanation of how these requirements are fulfilled.
Distinguishing a genuine credential evaluation report is straightforward. Legitimate reports include a thorough breakdown of the specific areas of study associated with the degree, while subpar reports merely offer English translations presented in chronological order, mirroring the format of the foreign transcript.
These less credible evaluations fail to discuss the completed areas of study. When the total credit requirements for a particular degree are met, the evaluator of the subpar report declares it equivalent to a U.S. regionally accredited degree. The subpar evaluation reports are the nightmares of graduating students in the U.S. regionally accredited universities.
The university registrar reviews the academic records of graduating students to ensure the completion of all necessary prerequisites and required areas of studies within the specified degree curriculum. Those identified as lacking these areas will be ineligible for graduation. They must undertake remedial courses before being considered candidates for graduation. These issues could have been avoided if the evaluators had performed their jobs diligently.
